Moving in Blackcat Style!
BCISD rolled out on Oct. 10 its refurbished U-Haul trucks when the BCHS band and varsity football teams traveled to Rosenberg for the Bay City versus Lamar Consolidated football game. "The trucks really are rolling billboards," commented BCISD Superintendent Keith Brown.
The trucks definitely make an impact on the road. They feature blue, yellow and gold striping, an identifiable fierce blackcat, the district's official seal, and the slogan "a hometown school with big city opportunities."
The larger truck also has a Blackcat band logo. According to BCISD Transportation Director Ron Carroll, right now the trucks will be used primarily for hauling band and athletic equipment, but will be available for other district purposes.
"The district had been renting trucks, but it made good business sense to buy these used trucks and refurbish them. They will have paid for themselves in two years," Carroll explained. "We found the two trucks in Houston, I worked up a redesign concept in about three weeks, we found a company to execute what we wanted, and the rest is history!"
Brown added, "I have not seen another band across Texas with a better looking equipment truck. Ron is definitely a 'top cat,' and has once again done a great job of finding a way for BCISD to operate more efficiently and effectively."
