July 12, 2010 Welcome to Bay City ISD. We shall provide students and members of the community with a learning environment which encourages personal thinking and reasoning skills enabling them to become thoughtful, productive and self-fulfilled citizens. We are very proud of our outstanding staff and students. We are a hometown school with big city opportunities. We are a family oriented community and school district. We demonstrate academic excellence. We teach students to become responsible citizens, develop positive self-concepts, exhibit tolerance and compassion for others, and to become life-long learners. Bay City ISD maintains high academic standards for all student populations in our district. We have designed, developed and implemented appropriate programs, which address the nature and needs of both special populations and regular student populations. We provide quality staff development and quality communication across the district. We provide quality teaching and rigorous learning in academic and vocational areas with an emphasis on mastery of reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies. We provide a safe and disciplined environment which is conducive to learning. We place a continued emphasis on providing students with highly qualified teachers and varied ethnic role models. We insure fiscal responsibility by prudent application of all district funds. BCISD provides facilities that support a positive learning environment for all students. We are very proud of our Academic Excellence, Safety & Security, Support Services, Career & Technology, Extracurricular opportunities and the tremendous amount of Community Involvement in our schools. We continue to strive to add value to every student and increase fidelity in all areas of our curriculum. We maintain the long standing conservative values associated with rural communities. We also understand that our staff and students are much more than a TAKS score. We invite you to visit our web site to learn more about us @ www.bcblackcats.net.
It is a great day to be a Bay City Blackcat!
Sincerely,
Keith A. Brown, Superintendent of Schools 520 7th Street, Bay City, Texas 77414 979-245-5766

Dear Community, While we were practicing the graduation ceremony at the stadium on June 5, I had this thought as I reflected on my first year in Bay City ISD: We are so much more than a TAKS score! We provide hope, knowledge, faith, love, compassion, guidance and a safe environment to our students. We teach kids how to read, calculate and communicate. We are with our students through tough times: we're an additional family, an additional support mechanism, an additional place that they call home. We teach them how to interact with other humans in an acceptable manner. We teach them how to accept success and failure, and we teach them how to live with the success and failures of those around them. We provide them a place where if they choose to do so, they can learn; if they choose to do so, they can succeed. We also provide them a place and the needed guidance to enable them to make choices that will help them learn and succeed. This is the first of many times you will hear me say that we are more than a TAKS score at BCISD. Open any of our local papers, check out our school websites, read our district newsletters, or visit any of our campuses and you will see what I mean. We are exceptionally proud of our accomplishments by our staff and students in the mastery of the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS); however, the TAKS test is only one area and method of measuring student success. Much of what we do can not be measured in a short amount of time and absolutely can not be measured by standardized tests that are legislated by standardized non-educators. In the end we in BCISD all know that we keep the main thing, the main thing, and that we are much more than a TAKS score! Have a great summer! And as always, it is a great day to be a Bay City Blackcat!
Thank you,
Keith A. Brown Superintendent of Schools BCISD
