Blackcat swimmers advance to Region
The BCHS Swim Team took third place overall at the district swim meet Feb. 6 at Lamar C.I.S.D. Swim Center. The girls team won third place and the boys team placed sixth in the meet. The girls 200 Freestyle Relay won first place and the 400 Freestyle Relay placed second. Coaches Robin Haring and Terri Ottinger were chosen as Girl and Boy District Coaches of the Year Seven swimmers have advanced to the region meet in individual events and two girls relays have advanced. The region meet is Feb. 13 at The University of Houston.

BCHS athletes sign scholarship offers
In the photo above, Jarvis signs with West Texas A&M University, and below, Le'Tevin signs with Texas Southern University. Both signed their letters of intent on Feb. 3, and will be playing football at their respective universities.

'Changing' Haiti
McAllister Intermediate Instructional Aide Janie Galvan has begun a coin-collecting drive at McAllister to benefit Haiti's relief efforts. (Galvan is pictured with students collecting money.) As of Feb. 8, the school has collected $812! The drive ends Feb. 12. If you'd like to donate, just go by the front office at McAllister. Money collected will be given to the Red Cross for Haiti relief.

"You've Got Heart"
Congrats to Sherry Wells of MCES (Matagorda County Education Services), who's the January winner of the BCISD "You've Got Heart" employee recognition honor. Sherry, the receptionist at MCES, was nominated by Laura Colton, for "always bringing cheer to the office by being friendly and surprising us with yummy goodies on gloomy days." Sherry wins a dining certificate donated by K-2 Restaurant, and brings to MCES the traveling trophy, donated by Ad Vantage Specialties, to display for the month.
