    Referral for Special Education

    The referral process begins with a notice (written or verbal) to the student's home school or the district's special education department.

    Referrals can be made by parents or guardians or other family members, teachers, adult student (18 yrs. or older), or other concerned individuals.

    Disabilities Supported:

    * Speech impairment
    * Learning disability
    * Other health impairment
    * Emotionally disturbed
    * Traumatic brain injury
    * Autism
    * Visual impairment
    * Auditory impairment
    * Deaf-blind
    * Intellectual Disability
    * Multiple disabilities

    Instructional Settings:

    Mainstream. This instructional setting is for providing special education and related services according to Individual Education Programs to students whose instruction and related services are provided in regular education with special education support.

    Homebound. This instructional setting is for providing special education instruction to students who are served at home or hospital bedside.

    Speech Therapy. This instructional setting is for providing speech therapy services.

    Resource room/services. This instructional setting is for providing special education instruction and related services to students in a setting other than regular education for less than 50% of the regular school day.

    Self-contained. This instructional setting is for providing special education instruction and related services to students in a special education program for more than 50% of the regular school day.

    Vocational adjustment class/program. This instructional setting is for providing special education, academic, or job-related instruction to students who are placed on a job with regular scheduled supervision by special education staff.
