What is the TSI Assessment?
The TSI Assessment (TSIA) is part of the Texas Success Initiative program designed to help your college or university determine if you are ready for college level course work. The multiple choise tests focuses on the areas that are tested are reading, writing, and mathematics. If you are an incoming college student in Texas, you are required to take the TSI Assessment, unless you are already exempt (look at the section below)- to determine your college-level coursework readiness. Based on your performance, you may either be enroleed in a college-level course or be placed in a remedial course that provides intervention to improve your skills and prepare for college-level courses. *Also, those students who plan on enrolling in our dual credit program and early college students should take the TSI test.
PASSING TSI Scores:
Reading- 351 | Mathematics- 350 | Writing- 340 and essay score of 4
- Scored a 23 or higher on the ACT composite and a minimum of 19 on both the English and math tests
- SAT administered March 2016 and later; Evidenced-Bases Reading and Writing (EBRW) minimum score of 480, Mathematics minimum score of 500 (no combined score needed)
- PSAT administered October 2015 and later; English minimum score of 460, Mathematics minimum score of 510 (no combined score needed)
All first-timers must complete the Pre-assessment Activity. It is a requirement that you complete this activity before you take the test. The activity contains an explantaion of the important of the TSI assessment and how it works, practice test questions, and an explanation of all your development education options if you don't pass the test.

As seniors begin applying to colleges, remember that all Texas public colleges have access to a state TSI score database from which they can pull TSI scores from all around the state upon student request. The tricky part is knowing how to request that they do so!
