BCJH Panther Band
Honor band is the premiere performing instrumental ensemble at BCJH. The band is comprised of 7th and 8th grade band students who have demonstrated proficiency and musicality on their instruments, and good workmanship in band. The students in this band are expected to attend and perform in pep rallies, the holiday lights parade, solo and ensemble, audition for All-Region band, holiday and spring concerts, and UIL contest.
Concert band is comprised of 7th and 8th grade students in their 2nd and 3rd years of band. The students will expand on the fundamentals of music learned in beginner band. The students in this band are expected to attend and perform in pep rallies, the holiday lights parade, solo and ensemble, holiday and spring concerts, and UIL contest.
Beginning band classes are comprised of students in their first year of band. Students will learn to read music, how to properly perform on their instrument, how to care and maintain their instruments, as well as music fundamentals. For many students this is their first exposure to playing an instrument. Care is taken to ensure that students are placed on an instrument in which they may succeed and enjoy playing. Beginning Band students are expected to attend and perform in both the holiday and spring concerts.
Bay City Junior High offers a limited number of French horns, trombones, baritones and tubas for a yearly user fee. Students who use these instruments must provide or rent a mouthpiece. Other beginner instruments the school does not provide are flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet and percussion. Students must provide any additional materials needed (reeeds, valve oil, etc.)
