    MCES had its annual Employee Retreat on August 17, 2018. The staff was led by Director of Special Education, Sonya Sonia, and Supervisor, Stacie Presley. The focus of the Employee Retreat was "Nourishing Our Team and Culture."
    Staff were encouraged to ask themselves:
    Am I really bringing my best every day?
    What example am I bringing to those around me?
    Is it the example that i want to be setting?
    Training topics at the retreat included:
    Confidentiality for Bay City ISD
    Confidentiality: Understanding FERPA
    Child Abuse: Prevention and Intervention
    Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Retaliation
    Blood Borne Pathogens at School (Test)
    Active Shooter

    An Opportunity for Every Child
    Special Education provides a continuum of child-centered and supportive services combined to meet the needs of eligible students with disabilities ages birth through 21 years.
    •Students with disabilities have the opportunity to participate in an education that is designed to meet their individual needs.
    •Students are served in an educational environment which meets their educational needs.
    •The goal is to provide students valuable educational experiences, which in turn lead to preparation for a lifetime of meaningful living.

    Parent and Community Involvement
    We believe that parental and community involvement is essential to quality education. When parents participate, they become partners in the planning and teaching of their child.

    Mission Statement
    Matagorda County Educational Services (MCES) provides quality support and services to our students, parents and campuses so that each individual student can be empowered to reach his or her full potential.
    1. Maximize the effectiveness of specialized programs, whether inclusive or specialized, on the campus
    2. Maintain a high standard of compliance with local, state and federal regulations
    3. Focus on building collaborative relationships with students, parents, campus staff and within our own team at MCES
    4. Focus on data driven processes to improve student outcomes
    5. Promote independent and functional living in society for our students
    Vision Statement
    We at MCES believe that every child has the ability to lean and if provided with enough support can reach his or her full potential. We will build collaborative relationships with staff in all of our districts in order to support programming and placements that will allow students with disabilities to make educational, developmental and social growth. We will provide service and knowledge to school staff to ensure that students with disabilities are treated with respect and dignity and are included with non-disabled peers as much as possible in our schools and communities. We believe in our services, our schools and our students. 

    * Reports of discrimination based on disability may be directed to the ADA/Section 504 Coordinator. The District designates the following person to coordinate its efforts to comply with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, which incorporates and expands upon the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.
