ECHS

  • Early College High School

Bay City Early College High School is where students gain the education they need for the future they want.

The Early College High School (ECHS) model allows students to blend high school and college coursework with the opportunity to earn up to two years of college credit (60 hours) while earning a high school diploma.  This model has shown to increase college readiness, provde rigorous instruction and coursework, and academic and social support for students.  The aim of Bay City Early College is to:

    • Make higher education more affordable & accessible
    • Increase college readiness
    • Save parents and students time & money
    • Increase graduation rates
    • Earn up to 60 college hours
    • Offer rigorous instruction & accelerated courses

Bay City ISD has a "school within a school" model, which means that students will take their college classes on the comprehensive high school campus.  Early College students will be both high school and college students so they will be able to blend college coursework with high school electives.  The goal is to provide students with a seamless pathway from high school to college.

    College Where You Need It

Although Early College students attend classes on the Bay City High School campus, they are recognized as Wharton County Junior College students so they have access to: Online facilitators, WCJC library databases, academic and career planning services, and may attend and participate in WCJC extra-curricular activities.  Depending on the program selected, students will be able to take college-level courses at Bay City HS or online.
