Rosemarie Cumings has taken over the reins of leadership at Bay City Junior High. She most recently served as the Linnie Roberts Elementary principal in 2018-19.

“I’ve already been meeting the staff and students, and learning more about the campus," she said.

Principal Cumings replaces Dollie Coleman, who left this summer.

Prior to working in Bay City ISD, Cumings was in the Houston Independent School District, where she served as principal at RL Isaacs Elementary School from 2013 to 2018 -- a campus where 95% of the students are Economically Disadvantaged. During her tenure there, the campus’ TEA Accountability Rating moved from “Improvement Required” in 2013 to “Met Standard” in 2014 – TEA’s highest rating. The campus maintained that rating 2014-2017.

Prior to her service at Isaacs Elementary, Cumings was first an Instructional Coordinator and then Assistant Principal at Dowling Middle School in HISD from 2010-2013.  She has also worked in Lamar Consolidated ISD as an RTI/Academic Facilitator, a third grade academic teacher, and a Kindergarten through fifth grade music teacher.

Cumings earned her Bachelor of Arts from California State University/Northridge, majoring in Instrumental Music Performance. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Houston/Victoria.

“I am looking forward to working with all the students, parents and staff at Bay City Junior High, and I already know many of them," said Cumings.

Cumings has two daughters. In her free time, Cumings enjoys attending Houston Astros and Texans sporting events, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
