March 27 Pre-K letter

Pre-Kindergarten Parent Letter
Friday, March 27, 2020

Dear PRE-K Parents/Guardians:

A second packet of an assortment of resources to assist you in continuing the educational growth for your Cherry Elementary student has been mailed home. (This is the second packet that we have sent home to all currently enrolled Cherry students, and it contains information specific to your student, so keep this somewhere safe!)  Also, be sure to “like” our Cherry Facebook page, and/or follow our Twitter account (@PrincipalMDodd) to continue reading all of our updates and accessing additional resources.

We encourage parents to continue working with your students according to the recommended times outlined below.  Because young children have short attention spans, the recommended times should be divided into smaller “chunks” throughout the week, and not done all at once.  (For example, 75 minutes weekly can be divided into 15 minutes daily Monday-Friday.)

Reading

75 minutes per week

Writing

50 minutes per week

Math

75 minutes per week

Science

30 minutes per week

Social Studies

20 minutes per week

Physical Education

75 minutes per week

Music

20 minutes per week

As we move into a long-term school closure, our teachers are preparing to provide instruction in a digital format through Google Classroom.  We encourage you to help your student submit assignments through Google Classroom, but assignments will not be graded. Teachers will provide feedback to students regarding progress at least once weekly.

Go to https://classroom.google.com to get started, and use the login information below.  You will enter class code 7raeabp when prompted to access the Pre-Kindergarten classroom.

Additionally, you may choose to access the following online resources appropriate for Pre-Kindergarten students:

Our teachers will be hosting weekly “classroom meetings” using the video conferencing tool, Zoom.  You will need to download the Zoom app to access this from your mobile device, or you can participate in the meetings via a computer, using the link sent to you by your teacher.  You do not need to create a Zoom account to be able to participate.

Please allow me to conclude this letter with my thoughts on our current situation.  Through the chaos, I have witnessed our community coming together once again to support one another in every way imaginable.  I am thankful for being a part of such a commendable, caring, and generous community. The most important thing for all of us to do at this time is to follow recommendations for hygiene and social distancing.  Although we miss our students immensely, we know that this closure is in the best interest of our BCISD students and employees.

Should you have any questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out to your student’s teacher via email, or you can reach me at mdodd@baycityisd.org.

Stay well,

Merideth Dodd
