Salary increase will help district attract and retain qualified employees
The Bay City ISD Board of Trustees approved a salary increase for all employees effective July 1, 2020, for the 2020-2021 school year at their June 15th regular board meeting.
Hourly and salaried staff will receive a raise of 4 percent of their pay grade midpoint, and teachers will receive an increase of 4 percent of the market average teacher salary, or $2,150 per teacher. Starting teacher pay will be raised to $48,000.
The increases were recommended by the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) HR Services division as part of a full pay study conducted for the district. The recommendations will help increase pay in the district and ensure BCISD teacher pay is aligned with market values.
The raise is designed to improve pay in the district and is aligned with recruiting and retention goals in the district’s strategic plan.
“This increase will allow us to maintain a competitive advantage in recruiting and retaining teachers and keep us as one of the ESC Region 3 leaders in pay,” Superintendent Marshall Scott III said. “We are grateful to our trustees for their decisive action during this pandemic, which has created much uncertainty for all our families. We are proud of our staff and are thrilled we can do this for them.”
