Matagorda County Public Schools launching new initiative on student social/emotional well-being

Dear Parents:

I would like to invite you to a community meeting where we will introduce families to the Community Partnership for Student Well-being, a program of the From the Heart Fund for Matagorda County. Three meetings are scheduled, and you are welcome to attend any of these:

February 18            Palacios at Secondary cafeteria, 100 Shark Drive)                       6:30-7:30 PM
February 20            Bay City at Bay City High School cafeteria                                6:00-7:00 PM

February 21             Tidehaven at Tidehaven High School cafeteria                           6:00-7:00 PM

At each of the three Town Halls, we will hold a drawing that all attendees will be eligible for.  Some of the prizes include:

  • Apple iPad Mini
  • $100 gift certificates to HEB
  • Kindle reader
  • Nintendo Classic Mini entertainment system
  • Family photographic portrait taken at the beach or another favorite outdoor spot
  • $25 Walmart gift certificates
  • Amazon Echo Dot
  • Amazon Fire Tablet
  • …and more to come!

There also will be free food and babysitting available.

Why are we doing this?  Because we are all concerned about the health and well-being of our students. We want to develop a learning environment that is safe for all students and faculty.  So we are asking you to join us as we turn our attention to the long-term behavioral health needs of all children in our schools.

Our goal is to support students who might need guidance in dealing with anxiety or other issues and support their development of positive personal relationships.  We hope to accomplish this by having parents and students fill out a simple survey that can guide us in helping the students who need help.  Once identified, we will give these students the kind of encouragement and support that can lead them to feeling better about themselves and about the many people – at home and at school – who care about them.

Please join us at these community meetings, where we will describe our plan.  If you have any questions, please call our offices.  We need your help in helping our children and teens.

If you are unable to attend in person, we will stream live the Bay City High event on the BCISD Facebook page via Facebook Live.

Sincerely yours,

Superintendent Dr. Marshall Scott III
